Q1 2025 has brought an important development in energy management. Codibly has been named the official Implementation Partner of the OpenADR Alliance, marking a significant advancement in their collaboration.

Codibly’s expanded role within the OpenADR Alliance

As a Contributing Member, Codibly has supported the Alliance’s mission to standardize demand response and energy management protocols, successfully completing several OpenADR implementation projects along the way. This new role allows the company to expand its contributions and provide additional value to the Alliance’s members and the broader energy industry.

As the first Implementation Partner, Codibly will take on responsibilities that include:

  • Providing technical support and integration services for OpenADR protocols
  • Delivering training programs to help members and clients adopt OpenADR standards effectively
  • Offering custom development solutions tailored to the needs of Alliance members
  • Facilitating the certification testing process, including managing and overseeing testing sessions

This expanded partnership reflects the increasing demand for scalable, standardized solutions that empower organizations to optimize energy use and adapt to the evolving needs of the renewable energy landscape.

Partnerships that support demand response and address challenges in the energy markets

The new role enhances the support available to OpenADR Alliance members by providing tailored implementation and advisory services that help organizations adopt and integrate demand response (DR) strategies more effectively. Demand response is essential in modern energy systems, balancing electricity supply and demand, reducing peak loads, and ensuring grid stability. OpenADR, as a widely adopted standard — particularly in the United States, Japan, Korea, and New Zealand — enables seamless, secure, and automated communication between utilities, aggregators, and end users, making it a cornerstone of efficient energy management.

“Our partnership with Codibly highlights the growing interest in standardized, interoperable solutions for energy management,” said Rolf Bienert, Managing and Technical Director of the OpenADR Alliance. “By collaborating with Codibly as a key Implementation Partner, we’re confident in their ability to support other members and expand the adoption of OpenADR across global markets.”

As the global energy sector transitions to incorporate more renewable energy sources and adapt to the rising demand for electrification, OpenADR has established itself as a critical tool for grid flexibility and reliability. Its standardized approach simplifies the deployment of demand response programs, empowering businesses and utilities to reduce costs, optimize energy use, and meet sustainability goals. Codibly’s expanded role as the official Implementation Partner to also offer custom development solutions allows OpenADR members to leverage this powerful protocol more effectively, paving the way for a more efficient and adaptable energy future.

The global role of OpenADR Alliance

The OpenADR Alliance, established in 2010, promotes the development and adoption of OpenADR and related standards. This globally recognized protocol facilitates secure, cost-effective, and efficient demand response and Flexibility solutions, enabling seamless communication between energy providers and their customers.

The Alliance brings together industry leaders to advance energy management technologies, benefiting utilities, businesses, and consumers alike. Its work underscores the critical importance of interoperability and standardization in tackling energy demand and grid stability challenges.

Looking ahead in the energy industry

Codibly’s expanded collaboration with the OpenADR Alliance opens new opportunities for advancing energy management practices. By supporting the adoption and implementation of OpenADR standards, this partnership is set to contribute to a more resilient and sustainable energy future.
